Miss Linda’s Castle holds dance recital

Laguna Beach Community Services is sponsoring Miss Linda’s Castle sixth annual Dance Recital at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Laguna Beach High School Artists’ Theatre. Performances feature students ages 3 to 10 singing and dancing to songs from “High School Musical 2.”

Hospital Auxiliary awards nine scholarships

The South Coast Medical Center Auxiliary has awarded scholarships to nine South Orange County students. John Robinson of Laguna Beach High School; Christina Houser, Kayla Ferrari and Karlee Whitmam of Dana Hills High School; and Breanna Sheldon, Alyssa Ahluwalia, Christie Li and Carly Richardson of Aliso Niguel High School each received $1,500 scholarships for college-related expenses.

Allegra Mount, who recently graduated from Laguna Beach High School, received the $2,000 Michele Codini, M.D. Scholarship.

Scholarship recipients seek careers in the health-care industry and have selected majors that include nursing, biology, public health and biochemistry. In addition, Ferrari and Whitman participated in the hospital’s Student Volunteer program. The awards reception was June 9.

Ebell Club continues scholarship program

The Laguna Beach High School Scholarship Program began in 1938 when the Ebell Club of Laguna Beach honored Laguna’s fourth graduating class. This year, Ebell Club President Murphy Gerber and Scholarship Chairwoman Ginny Preston awarded scholarships to four graduating seniors.

The following Laguna Beach High School graduates are the 2008 recipients of the Ebell Club of Laguna Beach Scholarships:

?Taylor Ceithaml has completed 391.5 volunteer hours and been on the honor roll all four years of high school. For the past five summers, she has been a counselor at Special Camp for Special Kids. She is treasurer and head of the fundraising committee of the National Honor Society. She danced in all shows put on by the high school, performed dance solos and choreographed three student shows and pep rally routines. Taylor will attend the University of Michigan, pursuing a career in biomedical engineering.

?Jason House has completed more than 300 hours of community service. He is ranked eighth in the graduating class with a weighted (includes extra points for advanced-placement classes) GPA of 4.41. He has been involved in National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, Surfrider Club and after school tutoring. He raised money through Teen Korps for Bluebird landslide victims. Jason will attend the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

?John Robinson is ranked first in the graduating class with a weighted GPA of 4.65. John has been a member of the marching band/wind ensemble all four years at Laguna Beach High School, and has been a member of the pit orchestra. He has been very involved in Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He will attend Harvey Mudd College where he plans to major in chemistry and/or or biology with the goal of earning a doctorate.

?Brendan O’Hare has completed 222 hours of community service. He is ranked seventh in the graduating class with a weighted GPA of 4.43. As a Boy Scout and Eagle Scout, Brendan made lunches for the homeless and re-landscaped a section of the high school. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the California Scholarship Federation and has participated in Corazon home building projects in Tecate, Mexico. He is a National Merit Commended Scholar. Brendan has been on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll every semester in high school. He has been an active member of the Park Avenue Players. Brendan has been accepted at USC, UCLA, NYU and Tufts and George Washington universities.
