The Exchange Club of Corona del Mar had a special guest at its annual Crime Prevention Program where they honor outstanding members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Newly appointed Sheriff Sandra Hutchens joined the crowd of more than 100 attendees to honor five of the department’s finest.

Honored were Deputy Holly Fisher, Harbor Patrolman of the Year; Deputy Luis DeAnda, North Operations Deputy of the year; Deputy Thomas Taylor, Jail Operations Deputy of the Year; Sgt. Jim England, Supervisor of the Year; and William MacDonald, Professional Staff Member of the Year.

Each of the honorees received plaques from the Exchange Club and resolutions from the Board of Supervisors, according to Jack Wilder, event chairman.

The Exchange Club of Corona del Mar meets Wednesdays at noon at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club.

LIONS IN ANGELS PARK

Harbor Mesa Lions Club members volunteered to assist Costa Mesa and Angel’s Charity with the grand opening of the new playground in TeWinkle Park.

On hand to help were President Gina Stansbury, and members Carol Van Holt, Lynn Seaholm, Sally Uhlir, Sue Seager, Gloria Kimmel, Marian Perrin, Dalila Vaden, Pinkie Stanley and Jeanne Samosuk.

“Handing out cupcakes and drinks is but a small token of our club’s appreciation for what this park means to children with disabilities,” Stansbury said. “We will always be on hand to serve in any capacity for events such as this that benefit our community.”

Harbor Mesa Lions Club has been a chartered Lions club for 16 years and was originally affiliated with the Costa Mesa Newport Harbor Lions Club as “Lionesses.”

WORTH REPEATING

Thought for the Day as provided by Greg Kelley of the Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council ... “A group becomes a team when all members are sure enough of themselves and their contributions to praise the skill of others.”
