Fire causes $500,000 in damage, displaces family

A Newport Beach family was uprooted from its home when a Big Canyon fire broke out Wednesday afternoon, causing $500,000 in damages.

Newport Beach firefighters were called to Inverness Lane at 12:30 p.m. to find flames coming from the residence.

One of the sleeping residents woke up to find the living room on fire. The girl grabbed her dog before running out of the house.

The fire originated from underneath a fish aquarium in the residence. The cause is under investigation.

Twenty-nine firefighters responded to the fire, which they were able to extinguish. The interior of the house sustained the most damage.

No one was injured, and all surrounding homes were left untouched.
