The Newport Beach Breakers announced Wednesday that former world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport will play in her lone scheduled home match July 10 at Newport Beach Country Club, against the Springfield Lasers.

Davenport, a Laguna Beach resident, is the Breakers’ marquee player this World Team Tennis season. However, there was some doubt she would play in the match after withdrawing from the second round of women’s singles at Wimbledon with a right knee injury.

But Davenport, 32, has been feeling better and is slated to play doubles in the July 10 match. It is still to be determined whether she will also play singles.

Davenport, who has won three Grand Slam singles titles, also played for the Breakers in 2003. She left the WTA Tour in late 2006 before giving birth to her son, Jagger, in June, 2007, but has made a successful comeback. Davenport is married to Jon Leach, the younger brother of Newport Beach Tennis Club pro and former Breakers player Rick Leach.

Davenport has two tournament wins this year. She won the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand in January, as well as an event in Memphis in March.

Davenport, who now has 55 career singles titles and has won over $22 million in her career, is currently ranked No. 25 in the world. She is also scheduled to play in the Breakers’ match at Sacramento on July 12.

The Breakers open their season tonight at Sacramento before their home opener Saturday at 7 p.m., against Kansas City.
