Ocean View Little League’s 9-and-10-year-old All-Stars secured a berth in the division’s championship series Tuesday by handing Robinwood a 14-2 defeat in the District 62 All-Star Tournament at Ocean View.

Ocean View, which rolled to three straight wins in Area 1 play, advanced to the championship series, which begins Monday at the Seaview Little League fields. Ocean View will face the winner of Area 2, either Seaview or Huntington Valley.

Huntington Valley defeated Seaview Tuesday night, creating a one-game playoff Wednesday night, the result of which wasn’t available at press time.

In Ocean View’s win Tuesday — courtesy of solid pitching by Logan Pouelsen and big home runs from Nick Pratto, who has clubbed four homers in three games, and Hagen Danner — was the second against Robinwood in the tournament.

Ocean View defeated Robinwood, 7-1, in the tournament opener Saturday.

“Solid hitting through our line up has been the key for us,” Ocean View Coach Sean Pouelsen said. “It’s not just the top of the order, it is the whole team that is squaring up the ball.

“Robinwood is a quality team and well coached. To beat them twice and to be able to hold them to as few runs as we did is a testament to how hard these boys have worked to get this far.”

In the 7-1 win over Robinwood Saturday, Pouelsen threw five strong innings and hit a two-run home run in the first inning, which was followed by a solo homer by Pratto.

Steven Gingery finished on the mound for Ocean View and struck out three in the sixth.

“The boys played really well and to beat a tough team like Robinwood in the first game of the tournament was huge for our team’s confidence,” Sean Pouelsen said.

Ocean View came out strong Sunday against Fountain Valley and went on to record an 18-0 victory. Pratto delivered a pair of home runs, Danner and Hunter Simmons also homered and Danner threw a four-inning no-hitter. Michael Gates also came up with two hits for the winners.

Fountain Valley had opened tournament play Saturday with a 7-3 victory over Costa Mesa American.

The Ocean View 9/10 All-Stars are: Chad Minato, Hagen Danner, Logan Pouelsen, Steven Gingery, Nick Pratto, Hunter Simmons, Michael Green, Luke Williams, Brian Rousseau, Calvin Cruz, Michael Gates, Andres Galarza, Matthew Rolfes, Manager Sean Pouelsen and coaches Andy Williams and Bjorn Green.

A Tuesday game between undefeated Ocean View and once-beaten Robinwood was called after the top of the eighth inning due to darkness. The game was resumed Wednesday but the score wasn’t available at press time.

The score was tied at 8-8 with Robinwood coming to bat in the bottom of the eighth.

Ocean View 11, Robinwood 3: In the tournament opener for both teams Saturday, Ocean View used three home runs to get past Robinwood.

Ben Drolet started the game with a solo home run. Max Gibbs hit a towering homer to right-center field in the fifth inning for his first home run in tournament play and Marcus Mayorga blew the game open in the sixth with a three-run blast to right-center field.

Drolet and Gibbs also doubled and Jake Bauers and Robert Baker each singled and doubled for Ocean View.

Of Ocean View’s 13 hits, seven went for extra bases.

Drolet also pitched 4 2/3 innings, striking out nine, including five in a row before he was relieved. Andrew Arledge came in and closed, recording the final out by strikeout.

“The boys came out and hit the ball really hard today,” Ocean View Coach Richard Lopez said. “I think Ben’s lead-off home run was the catalyst. I was very pleased to beat Robinwood. I’m sure we’ll face them again down the road.”

Ocean View 8, Fountain Valley 1: In its second game in two days, Ocean View advanced in winner’s-bracket play Sunday behind the 14-strikeout performance of Max Gibbs.

Gibbs tossed a four-hitter without allowing a walk.

“He was dominant and in complete control the entire game,” Lopez said.

Baker, Bauers and Mayorga paced Ocean View with two hits apiece. Bauers’ sacrifice fly in the third inning proved to be the winning hit.
