Raw food restaurant shows off patriotic colors

118 Degrees, the raw food restaurant at the Camp, never heats its food above 118 degrees Fahrenheit — which means that its dishes retain most of their natural color.

Today, the restaurant will put those colors to patriotic use for its first-ever Fourth of July weekend brunch.

Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., 118 Degrees will offer a five-course brunch dominated by the colors of the flag: coconut cream pudding with cherries, “firecracker rolls” containing red bell peppers, tomatoes, carrots and corn, blackberry salad, blue corn crepes and a dessert of peaches and cream.

“We’re just trying to keep it all American — red, white and blue,” Executive Chef Jenny Ross said.

The brunch costs $22 per person, although Ross said the five courses are large enough to split between two people. 118 Degrees is at 2981 Bristol St. in Costa Mesa. Call (714) 754-0718 for more information.
