Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar in Newport Beach has announced its annual listing of 100 wines for 2008-09.

“The Fleming’s 100 is nothing less than an honor roll of excellence from around the world,” said Marian Jansen op de Haar, wine director for Fleming’s.

In the spirit of sustainability, more than 70 of the wines on Fleming’s 100 come from “green wineries” — wineries that implement organic and bio-dynamic farming.

“Without question, these selections set the Fleming’s 100 apart from other wine lists,” de Haar said. “By including these carefully handcrafted and environmentally responsible wines, we are introducing our guests to a whole new level of connoisseurship and enjoyment.”

Fleming’s will also be holding a sweepstakes marking the announcement of its wine list: One winner will receive 100 bottles and a wine refrigerator for their collection.

Though California and France are the typical geographic regions most think of when it comes to wine, Five Crowns in Newport Beach will be changing things up on Sunday Aug. 3 when it holds Argentinean Wine Tasting.

A menu by chef Dennis Brask will complement the lineup of wines for the night, which includes a 2005 Felipe Rutini Chardonnay, a 2005 Catena Malbec and a 2005 Clos de Los Siete. The wines originate from Mendoza, the heart of Argentina’s wine region.

The event will run from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $45 per person.
