THE LAST WORD:

It’s been a rough week for Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship title holder who was arrested in Newport Beach on Tuesday. Police said Jackson, who lost his title earlier this month, led them on a chase down the 55 freeway onto the Balboa Peninsula, hitting at least three cars along the way. Soon after Jackson exited Orange County Jail on $25,000 bail, police arrived at his Irvine home — summoned by friends who said the fighter was behaving oddly — and brought him to the hospital for evaluation.

As Jackson’s name saturated websites nationwide, a Huntington Beach woman claimed she and her unborn child had been injured when Jackson sideswiped them on the freeway. In an e-mail to the Daily Pilot, she wrote that the former champion “had no regard for my life or anyone else’s for that matter.”

Obviously, when a celebrity gets in hot water, it makes for front-page material and draws plenty of web traffic. But at least three are in jeopardy, and we’d take a speedy recovery for all concerned over another headline any day.
