Olympian May-Treanor meets with President Bush
Next month in Beijing, China, Misty May-Treanor hopes to experience the thrill of winning her second straight Olympic gold medal in women’s volleyball.
But, on Monday, the Newport Harbor High product got a different kind of thrill. She and partner Kerri Walsh met with President George W. Bush, as they were among the attendees at a USA Olympic ceremony at the White House.
May-Treanor, 31, and Walsh also defeated fellow Sailors alumna April Ross and partner Jen Boss, 21-14, 21-15, in the final of the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Brooklyn Open on Saturday.
May-Treanor and Walsh have now won 17 tournaments in a row, and 96 straight matches. Both are AVP women’s records, breaking their own marks of 15 tournaments and 89 consecutive matches.
May-Treanor and Walsh will next participate in the AVP Long Beach Open beginning Friday.
