Brooks, Hogan remain in title hunt at junior worlds

LINZ, Austria — A.J. Brooks and J.P. Hogan, both Newport Harbor High students, finished second in their quarterfinal heat and advanced to today’s semifinals at the Junior Rowing World Championships in Linz, Austria.

Brooks and Hogan, who also row for the Newport Aquatic Center, finished with the second-best time in the quarterfinals, 6 minutes, 53.36 seconds, behind Slovenia, which came in at 6:51.08.

The Newport Harbor duo will race today in semifinal with Georgia, Australia, Greece, Romania and Lithuania. The top three finishers will advance to the Grand Final, while the bottom move on to the Petite Final.
