Slammers stay strong in girls’ under-15 division

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Tessa Andujar, who will be a Corona del Mar High sophomore, scored a goal to help the Slammers girls’ under-15 team win its pool and advance to today’s semifinals at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships Thursday.

The Newport Beach-based Slammers defeated Scorpions Elite of Massachusetts, 3-0. Andujar’s goal was one of three in the first half for the Slammers, who also include CdM incoming sophomores Jordan Dillion, Scarlett Fallon and Lindsey Luke.

The Slammers will face KCFC Intensity of Kansas today. The So Cal Blues, coached by Vanguard University head man Randy Dodge, won its pool and is playing in the other semifinal against Lonestars 93G of Texas.

The Slammers girls’ under-19 team, which includes Corona del Mar High product Taylor Fallon and Corona del Mar resident Jackie Zinke, scored a 3-1 win over Challenge 89. The Slammers lead the division at 2-0 and will face FC Penn Strikers today for the right to advance to the championship.

The Slammers girls’ under-17 team lost, 2-1, to FC Buck Vipers. The Slammers play against Eclipse Select today and will need to win by a three-goal margin to have a chance to advance to the championship.

The So Cal Blues girls’ under-16 team, which includes Newport Harbor High’s Elizabeth Eddy and Gillian Hogan, lost, 1-0, to Eclipse Select to close out pool play and will compete in consolation action today.
