She’s able to rip with the best of them. She can glide through the streets with ease and power through the powder effortlessly. It’s “Supergirl,” and she’ll be making appearances running today through Sunday just south of the Huntington Beach Pier.

Catch her while you can. The S3 Supergirl Jam is a three-day event featuring surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding competitions that run in conjunction with Go211 Live featuring the Honda U.S. Open of Surfing presented by O’Neill.

More than 100 of the world’s top female action sports athletes are confirmed for S3 Supergirl Jam, which is celebrating its second year. Among that number is 23 Southern California athletes ranging in age from 9 (Alize Montes, a skateboarder from Seal Beach) to 39 (Cara-Beth Burnside, a skateboarder from Encinitas).

Laguna Beach’s Bryn Valaika is scheduled to compete but the 16-year-old, who will enter her junior year at Laguna Beach High in September, said she’s “tentative” due to her continued recovery from knee surgery in May.

Valaika said she “blew her knee out” in April after “coming up short” on a jump in Lake Tahoe. She said she tore her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus.

“I’m playing it by ear,” she said of the competition. “Even if I don’t compete, I’ll probably go out there to watch. I had a really good time in the event last year.”

The S3 Supergirl Junior Pro surfing contest marks the first time a women’s Junior Pro contest has been held since 2006.
