Laguna Locals bring musical “Soulfood” to Canyon Lodge

Laguna musicians Robert Cassard and Bara Waters are known around town for their “Under the Rock” charity concerts, which have drawn hundreds of locals to such renowned venues as Moss Point and Bridge Hall and have raised significant sums for area charities. But now Cassard and Waters have settled on the Canyon Lodge (formerly Ben Brown’s) as the cozy scene of their new musical “parties with a purpose.”

The first Soulfood Session in July lured scores of fans deep into Aliso Canyon for food, fun, acoustic soul and lush three-part harmonies. Cassard and Waters were joined onstage by guitarist/vocalist Paul Manfrini and “groovemaster” percussionist Steve Reid, themselves longtime Laguna residents.

Soulfood Sessions’ music is ideally complemented by the Canyon Lodge’s ever-evolving organic and sustainably oriented menu designed by Chef Robert Biebrich. Guests can order drinks and appetizers or a great meal while enjoying the show, and everyone is encouraged to eat, drink, listen, sing along, clap, dance (or whatever else comes to mind)!

The last Soulfood Session of the summer will take place on Thursday, August 14, from 7 to 10 pm. For this month’s event, Cassard, Waters & Manfrini will be joined by Blue Man Group percussionist extraordinaire, Vic Peterson.

Suggested donation is $20 per person and helps support that month’s charity of choice. Canyon Lodge reservations are strongly encouraged: 949-499-2663.
