Nonprofit’s event gives time away from stress

A helping hand never hurts, especially in economic times like these. Fifteen seventh-grade girls with the Newport Mesa Charity League reached out to local families in need Monday at the Irvine Regional Park. Food and games were available for children, while parents had the opportunity to participate in workshops focusing on life and management skills.

Serving People In Need coordinated the event, which drew 36 children and 29 parents.

“The picnic was well-organized and the families had a wonderful time,” said Kim Frazier, director of volunteers. “A day of fun and relief from pressures was well-deserved for these families.”
