Fall watercolor class at Lang Park

The City of Laguna Beach Senior Services in collaboration with Irvine Valley College Emeritus will off an Intermediate-Advanced Watercolor class on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at Lang Park from Aug. 28 through Dec. 18.

Focusing on historical and contemporary aspects of watercolor, the instructor will demonstrate step-by-step varied styles and technical approaches.

Instructor Theresa Fernald has been teaching and exhibiting art for more than 30 years. She received her BFA from California College of the Arts and her MFA from Cal State Long Beach. She currently exhibits her work in Santa Monica and teaches in Orange County.

Fall classes for health and wellness

The following classes for seniors will be held at the Laguna Beach Senior Center, 384 Legion St.

Dayan QiGong

Wild Goose Chi Kung provides a balanced approach to health and wellness. Simple, easy movements dredge the meridians, expel “sickness” qi and strengthen the body’s immune system. Classes include stretching, acupressure massage, meditation and the graceful movements of Dayan Qigong. This free class will be held 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays, Aug. 28 to Dec. 18. Judy Shields is the instructor.

Nutritional Cooking

Learn how to pick nutrient-rich foods and a plan that fits your lifestyle while making better choices without depriving yourself.

Learn how to “tweak” a luscious meal into a healthy, satisfying one. Leave with great recipes, a meal planner and the tools to get started on the best life diet. Class will be held Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m., Aug. 27 to Dec. 17. Cost is $15. Susan Miller is the instructor.

Laguna Beach Seniors, Inc., in collaboration with HI-CAP, offers trained volunteers to advise and provide information on Medicare, HMO appeals, long-term care and supplemental insurance on the first and third Mondays of the month from 9 to 11 a.m.
