On Tuesday, Aug. 5th, the fifth annual Harbor Cup Softball Game was held at Bob Henry Park in Newport Beach. It was a match up between two of the most prestigious charter boat companies on the west coast. Rivals, Hornblower Cruises and Events and Icon of Charter yachts faced off for the fifth consecutive year. The game started off with Hornblower getting off to a fast start. They pounded Icon for 9 runs in the first inning and the score was 9 to 1 after the inning was over. Icon had won the previous four years in a row, but this year Hornblower proved to be too much as they overpowered Icon with tremendous displays of offense and outstanding defense. Hornblower exploded for nine more runs in the third inning and the deficit proved to be too much for Icon to overcome. Josh Phillips led the way on defense and helped Hornblower put a stranglehold on Icon’s hitters.

The top of the fifth inning started off with Hornblower flexing its offensive muscles with back-to-back-to-back home runs by Paul Wilson, Mike Smith and Mario Ordaz. Cameron McCarty, Kelly Birk and Shawn Ware also chipped in with home runs of their own. Several more runs were tacked on by Hornblower and in the end, the final score was 35-5, making it the largest margin of victory in the history of the Harbor Cup.
