NEWPORT BEACH — Corona del Mar High standouts Hailey Hogan and Chris Damion won the X-Treme World Team Tennis National High School Championship, beating Corona del Mar’s Danielle Kaiden and Parker Rhodes, 14-13, at Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club Sunday.

This is the second straight year that Hogan, who will be a junior next year, has won the event. She won it last year, when she teamed up Clark Spinosa of Claremont. This time she partnered up with Damion, a senior-to-be.

The finals featured a girls’ singles set, a boys’ singles set and a mixed doubles set. Hogan beat Kaiden, 6-0, but Rhodes, defeated Damion, 6-4. In mixed doubles, seniors-to-be Kaiden and Rhodes won, 6-4.

With Hogan and Damion ahead, 14-12, overall, Kaiden and Rhodes were given the chance to continue mixed doubles play because the duo had claimed two of the three sets.

Kaiden and Rhodes made it exciting. Rhodes won the next game, cutting the deficit to 14-13. But Hogan held serve and she and Damon were able to claim the tournament.

Hogan and Damion went 5-0 during round-robin action. Kaiden and Rhodes went 4-1.

Two teams out of the eight-team field had to default due to players competing in other national tournaments.

Silverado High from Las Vegas, St. John’s from New Jersey, and Parker Hill from Kansas City finished in three-way tie for third place.
