When relatives of 22-year-old Brian Campos honor him later this month, they want people to celebrate his life, not mourn his death, family members said.

“Brian’s Party,” as his mother calls it, is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 31 on the beach just off 46th Street and Balboa Boulevard in Newport Beach.

Anyone who would like to celebrate Brian’s life is invited and should bring a chair or blanket, picnic basket, candle and a small picture of Brian, about 3-by-5 inches, taped onto a piece of paper where they can write a favorite memory they’ve shared with him.

Brian’s mother, Pamela Campos, plans to put all of them in a book commemorating him. There will be music, snacks and special speakers, relatives said.

Family members originally planned to have the service at a local park.
