Public school starts soon

Laguna Beach Unified School District classes begin Sept. 2, with orientation for high school students Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Staff members have been working productively all summer to create a smooth and welcoming environment for students as they return to class on Sept. 2. We look forward to an exciting and positive 2008-09 school year,” Supt. Robert Fraisse said.

Elementary

For El Morro and Top of the World elementary schools, school will start at 7:55 a.m. Sept. 2. New student and Kindergarten registration information is available on the school websites.

Middle

Thurston Middle School students will begin classes at 7:35 a.m. Sept. 2. Zero period meets Monday through Thursday from 7:35 to 8:35 a.m., with a late start Friday at 9:10 a.m.

High School

New student registration at Laguna Beach High School is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Monday. No appointments needed; walk-in only.

Confirmation Day will be in the K Turner Library on Tuesday and Wednesday. Students should bring completed confirmation packets and a backpack for taking home textbooks.

Tuesday:

12th Grade Confirmation, 8 to 10 a.m.;

11th Grade Confirmation, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Wednesday:

10th Grade Confirmation, 8 to 10 a.m.;

Ninth Grade Confirmation, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

For those entering ninth grade, orientation will be in Dugger Gym on Wednesday from 8 to 10 a.m. with the “Break Thru Crew.”

High school classes start at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 2.

The district office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call (949) 497-7700.
