A crash in San Luis Obispo County left a 20-year-old Fountain Valley resident dead and a Huntington Beach resident badly injured, authorities said.

Chadrik T. Miller, 20, of Fountain Valley, died after the truck he was riding in rolled over on the 101 Freeway at 12:23 p.m. Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol. Huntington Beach resident Robert A. Chamberlain, 20, was also a passenger and took major injuries, according to the CHP. Chamberlain was reported to be in stable condition at Marian Medical Center in the Santa Maria Valley.

Driver Jesse Hope, 19, of Norwalk, was immediately arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, as well as vehicular manslaughter. He had moderate injuries, authorities said.

Another passenger, Cydney L. Bonilla, 20, of San Clemente, also had moderate injuries, authorities said.

The 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck carrying off-road vehicles was driving about 75 mph south on the 101 Freeway near Highway 166, just north of Santa Maria, when Hope lost control and it hit the median, the CHP said. After swerving and hitting the median again, it rolled over multiple times, according to authorities.

The loss of control may have been spurred by a car in front of it making an unsafe lane change, but the investigation continues, authorities said.
