Keeping it clean

The next big thing in the hip-hop industry is coming out of Orange County and doing it with a smile on his face.

Shancie, AKA The Prince of O.C, will celebrate the release of his first EP at the Newport Beach night club Tentation Ultra Lounge at 9 p.m. Friday to a celeb-filled crowd.

Shancie will debut his latest songs that bring an upbeat tempo to his smooth delivery and positive lyrics. His songs are rooted in hip-hop but push a pop sound that creates what he describes as “hip-pop.”

But outside the club is where Shancie is really getting people to move. The 18-year-old has been recording for only a few years and has already had major studio time with producers like Roy “Royalty” Hamilton, who produced songs for Michael Jackson and Britney Spears. Shancie is preparing for major music success.

“I’m ready,” Shancie said about his future in the industry. “It’s scary because it happened so quick … but I am ready to take on the industry.”

But is the industry ready for him? Shancie is the first to take on the traditionally non-hip-hop oriented community of Orange County and identify himself by it. In a genre flooded with negative lyrics about rough living, the clean lyrics of Shancie can sometimes be looked at with skepticism. So how will he overcome that obstacle?

Simple. He will be himself.

“I’m just gonna be me and be nice and make good music,” Shancie said. “I’m a nice guy, I get along with everyone and my lyrics are clean so I haven’t really faced any criticism.”

His clean lyrics and dance vibe music will hit clubs and car stereos very soon, but the idea of success has not changed his attitude on life. Considering he is a recent high school grad, he still hangs out with his friends and tries to maintain a normal life around his music career.

Shancie believes his age helps him connect directly to his market. He makes music for people who go to clubs and dance just like he would with his friends, which, in turn, allows his music to come naturally.

His goal is to make people feel good and enjoy the people around them.

Shancie’s music can already be enjoyed by anyone visiting Facebook, YouTube or MySpace just by searching for “Shancie Boyd.”

The hype around him has already grown on an international level. Through forums like MySpace, his first single, “Can I Get Wit Cha,” has attracted a fan base in France.

His EP release party at Tentation will bring him closer to his music dream. All while reppin’ the “O.C.”
