No DUIs handed out at police checkpoint

Of 1,600 cars that passed through a Costa Mesa Police Department sobriety checkpoint this week, none were cited for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to Sgt. Robert Sharpnack.

A total of 326 cars were stopped at 17th Street and Westminster Avenue Thursday, and although no drivers were found to be inebriated, a few were cited for other miscellaneous violations.

Two drove without a license, two drove with suspended licenses and 21 had vehicle code violations, Sharpnack said.

Four cars were impounded.

During the checkpoint, an increased number of police patrolled the surrounding streets to make sure nobody ducked the sobriety test, according to Sharpnack.
