The X-treme Gunners, a U12 boys team of the Gold Coast X-treme soccer club, began regular season play in the Coast Soccer League winning both of their first two games on shutouts.

On Saturday, September 6, the Gunners defeated Cypress FC Blue 2-0. The Gunners’ dominated play in the first half outshooting their opponents 6-2, and led at halftime on a goal by left midfielder Luke Johnston off an assist by Mike Giacone. The second half was much more closely contested, but the Gunners’ defense, anchored by goalkeeper Chris Brennan, managed to keep Cypress of the scoreboard. Meanwhile, Gunners’ right midfielder Ryan Gehris scored mid-way through the second half for the final tally of the game.

On Sunday, September 7 FC Long Beach visited Starview field, and the Gunners’ defense withstood a furious second half challenge to win by an identical 2-0 score. Both Gold Coast X-treme goals were scored by striker Hector Calderon, who scored his second goal on a spectacular header off a crossing pass by Luke Johnston. Goalkeeper Chris Brennan preserved the shutout on a leaping save late in the second half of the game.
