UCI’s Sutherland garners all-tournament laurels

UC Irvine senior libero Devon Sutherland earned all-tournament honors at the Nike Portland women’s volleyball invitational, completed Saturday at the University of Portland.

Sutherland led UCI with 56 digs in three matches as the Anteaters went 1-2 in tournament play. UCI beat Portland and fell to No. 20-ranked Kansas State and Arizona State.

Sutherland had a season-high 22 digs against Kansas State.

Heading into Wednesday’s home nonconference match against No. 12-ranked Oregon (5-1), Sutherland is averaging 4.3 digs per set and has a team-leading 91 digs this season. She also ranks third on the team with four service aces.

UCI is 3-3 entering Wednesday’s 7 p.m. match at Crawford Court, the lone home match for the Anteaters before they open Big West Conference play.
