CHECKING IN WITH ... CHEZ ELLE RESALE BOUTIQUE:

With models back on the Bryant Park runways for New York Fashion Week and high school back in session, we thought we would check in on Eugenia Rice, owner of the savvy fashionista’s favorite bargain haunt: Chez Elle Resale Boutique, at 3601 Jamboree Road, Suite 7 in Newport Beach.

Considered by many to be the grand dame of O.C. consignment shopping, Chez Elle has become even more selective about what shopkeepers put on their racks. From Ella Moss to Escada, they carry the most coveted garb, whether you’re a picky teen or the most well-heeled lady who lunches.

What are some of the newest styles you have in?

We carry a wide range of clothes. From young and trendy to classic and couture, and sometimes a bit of authentic vintage. I pride myself in having a bit of everything. You never know what kind of client will walk into the store, so I feel it is important that we choose styles that make a statement, simple or bold.

Classics are making a comeback this year, so we will see much of that, but with an up-to-date twist on it. It should be very fun and exciting.

Where do you get your merchandise?

From our wonderful consignors.

How often do you get new things in?

Every day. I have limited it to three appointments a day (if possible), and we occasionally have people walk in with their merchandise without appointments.

What are your most popular items right now?

Right now it seems designer purses are very popular. We sell a lot of jeans, specialty tops, dresses and blouses. Since we are heading into fall, we will start selling coats, St. John and warmer pieces. Boots are very popular also. But purses are still very hot.

What’s the latest word in shoes?

Open-toe, short boot with a high heel. Lots of straps — also jewels on your shoes.

What are some of the hottest accessories for O.C. gals?

Jeweled purses, shoes, sunglasses, dresses, gloves, belts and hats. Python skin will also be very in this fall. Purses, cashmere sweaters, big necklaces and hats.

What are teens going back to school looking for?

Straight/skinny jeans, scarves, long tops that can turn into a short dress. Tunic types of dresses. Designers like Ed Hardy, Alice & Olivia, Rich and Skinny, Use Unused, William Rast, GraceSun and Splendid are just a few that are very popular with the fashionable in crowd.
