Topy Cup

TANAGURA, Japan — The UC Irvine men’s golf team finished seventh in the 26th annual Topy Cup that concluded Thursday at Tanagura Country Club in Tanagura, Japan.

The Anteaters shot a 4-under total of 284 in the final round and had a 54-hole total of 877. Tohoku Fukushi University won its fourth consecutive Topy Cup title with a final tally of 29-under 835 over three rounds. Lamar University was second (855) and Nihon University third (857) in the 10-team field that featured four American schools and six Japanese universities.

UCI’s John Chin and Sean Shahi each shot 2-under rounds of 70 Thursday. Chin finished ninth in the tournament with a 54-hole score of 3-under 213 while Shahi was 22nd at 220.

Sophomore Bryan Harris carded a 1-under 71 in the last round, senior Cean Hayashi Geronimo a 73 and freshman Michael Im 76.

Im finished 28th overall with a three-round total of 223, Harris was 31st at 224 and Geronimo 53rd at 236.

Yoshinori Fujimoto of Tohoku Fukushi shot a 4-under 68 Thursday to claim medalist honors with a total of 14-under 202, seven shots ahead of runner-up Yuuki Ito from Nihon University.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Biola def. Vanguard

COSTA MESA — Heather DeJongh led the Lions with 12 kills, but Biola came out on top, 25-22, 25-21, 25-12, in a battle of ranked unbeatens of the Golden State Athletic Conference Thursday night at the Pit.

Vanguard (6-1, 1-1 in conference) entered as the No. 13-ranked team in the NAIA. Biola (10-0, 1-0) is ranked No. 4.
