High holidays approaching

Chabad of Laguna Beach is planning to celebrate the High Holidays with a number of services and events.

Rosh Hashanah begins Sept. 29, and Yom Kippur follows on Oct. 8. The schedule for observances follows.

ROSH HASHANAH

?Sept. 29 “” Services: 7 p.m.

?Sept. 30 “” Services: 10 a.m., Shofar Sounding: 12:30 p.m.; Tashlich Service at Montage Beach at about 3:30 p.m. Evening Services: 7 p.m.

?Oct. 1 “” Morning Services: 10 a.m., Shofar Sounding: 12:30 p.m.

YOM KIPPUR

?Oct. 8 “” Kol Nidrei Services: 6:30 p.m.

?Oct. 9 “” Morning Services: 10 a.m.; Yizkor Memorial Service: 12:30 p.m.; Mincha and Neilah Services: 5 p.m, Fast Ends at 7:01 p.m.

Children’s events for High Holidays

A High Holiday Storytime will take place at Barnes and Noble, 26751 Aliso Creek Road, Aliso Viejo at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Perel Goorevitch, director of the preschool at Chabad of Laguna Beach, will lead an hour of storytelling, guitar sing-along, arts and crafts, shofar blowing, honey dipping and fun to make the customs and traditions of Rosh Hashanah come alive for children.

A “Bee” there Rosh Hashanah Workshop will take place at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 23, at Chabad Jewish Center, 30804 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach.

The event includes a beekeeper demonstration about bees, nectar, hives and honey; a shofar demonstration all about the blowing of the ram’s horn; and kids can paint and fire ceramic apple and honey jars for the Rosh Hashana table. All ages welcome. $10 per person. To attend, call (949) 499-0770.
