Rep. Campbell seeks committee leadership

Rep. John Campbell is a front-runner to become the new chairman of the Republican Study Committee, a congressional group dedicated to furthering a conservative agenda in the House of Representatives, according to a spokesman.

Vartan Djihanian, Campbell’s communications director, said in a news release that Campbell is in the running to succeed committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling. The committee’s elders are scheduled to interview Campbell and other candidates next week.

A spokesman for Hensarling’s office confirmed that the interviews were pending but declined to comment on whether Campbell was a front-runner for the post.
