Harbor View First Grade Golfer Wins Again

With two weeks of First Grade under his belt, 6 year old Zane Weaver traveled to San Diego to play in the Future Champions Golf, Parent-Junior Championship at Colina Park Golf Course in San Diego on Saturday, September 13th. In addition to a best ball Parent-Junior competition there were individual age group competition for the juniors. Unfortunately for Zane, I was more of an anchor than an asset on the well maintained executive course that features small undulating greens. My 10 over par 64 did not help the team much and we finished in a respectable seventh place overall. This was no reflection on Zane’s play. I knew it would likely be another fine day when Zane hit a solid 8 Iron on the first hold and sank a 20 footer with a foot of break for a birdie. Zane’s 8 over par 62 gave him a comfortable 4 shot victory margin among the ten boys in the 6-and-under division. His score also bested the eight boys in the 7-10 year old division to give him the overall low score of all the boys. While I knew the day would come that my son would beat me in a round of golf, I never imagined it would happen so soon. It was quite humbling for this 8 handicapper to be bested by his 6 year old son who has only been golfing for a year. This was of course overshadowed by the joy of watching my son beat his old man, straight up, fair and square. First of many to come.
