Yeomans tries for third straight surfing crown

NEWPORT BEACH — Nathan Yeomans will attempt to win his third straight Oakley Newport Beach Pro event today at 56th Street in Newport Beach.

Yeomans, 27, of San Clemente, advanced to today’s semifinals of the Assn. of Surfing Professionals World Qualifying Series competition. He is one 16 surfers remaining to battle for the Newport Beach Pro crown.

Saturday’s action also included the Newport Beach Surfing Championships, which continues today. The two events, along with the Oakley Pro Junior competition, will all take place today with champions being crowned by day’s end.

The Newport Beach Surfing Championships includes amateur competitors in various age groups. Results will be posted on www.newportbeachpro.com.
