SAN DIEGO — Senior Michael Willrich scored with an assist from junior Irvine Garcia in the 37th minute to give the Anteaters the title at the four-team San Diego tournament completed Sunday.

Freshman goalie Andrew Fontein made five saves to earn his second straight shutout for UCI (6-0-2).

UCI won a tiebreaker with UC Davis to claim the crown.

STOCKTON — No. 7-ranked UC Irvine lost to No. 5 Pepperdine, 12-10, in the seventh-place game Sunday after falling to Loyola Marymount, 11-5, earlier Sunday.

Griffin Lerman and Brandon Johnson had three goals each against Pepperdine.

UCI is now 1-4.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — UC Irvine was swept, 25-17, 25-23, 28-26, by Liberty Sunday to conclude the tournament.

UCI (5-8), hit a season-low .133 as a team as Chelsea Ellis and Larissa Nordyke had nine kills each. Ellis hit .500.

IRVINE — Anteaters junior Kate Berrini scored her fourth goal of the weekend in the 85th minute to force overtime in the UC Irvine Invitational Sunday at UCI.

Sophomores Nikki Forrest and Alyssa Humphrey both earned an assist on the UCI goal.

Berrini, freshman Judy Christopher and Humphrey were named all-tournament for the Anteaters (4-5).
