AYSO Region 97 Soccer Action for Week Three
Frostbite (GU14)
Natalie Balgie tapped the 1st goal of the game, quickly followed up by a drive by Shantee Elam in the 1st quarter. Page Keys had her first assist after crashing the goal on a goal kick, tapped in by Lauren Hanson. Megan Farley and Cortland Clement played well on the other side. Bayley Davidson, Leah Van Dyke and Alex Palmer had a great game as midfielders keeping the ball up field. In the 2nd half, Charlie Jackson drilled in one from the 18 yard line. Page Keys had the angle into the goal for the last point, but got another assist after Natalie
Balgie tapped it in for insurance. Natalie Teal and Brenda Luna shined on the field as well. Frostbite came out on top with a score of 5 to 2.
Razzeberry Lemonade 1, Blue Stars 1 (GU12)
The stars scored the first goal late in the second half against a tough defensive line of Kira Wondrocke, Julieanne Eifler, Bailey Scalzo and Sienna Keillor for the Lemonaide. Molly Mc Cuniff scored on an assist by Megan Keys early in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Offensively, Bailey Carr, Kira Ellis-Josch, Brooke Hinton and Hannah Joyce shined. Midfielders Tara Hurket, Samantha Ludes and Natalie Satchell kept the ball up field and out of the net.
The Go-Go’s vs. The Pink All-Star Army Girls (GU8)
What a game! Lauren Titelman scored off an amazing corner kick. Allison Crandell and Caroline Pipkin were unstoppable with strong footwork. Claire Jeffs and Claire Bacon continued their streak of awesome passing while Skylar Jacobsen and Carolyn Altshuler held strong in the midfield. Grace Fay and Alina Aguirre kept the other team on their toes by covering the field, all the while exhibiting their exquisite skills.
Raptors vs. Sharks (GU10)
The Raptors held off the Sharks with a 3 – 2 win. The first quarter Raptor, Rebecca Szulga made 4 great saves in the goal and Raptor, Carly Cox, scored the first goal of the game. In the second quarter Raptor, McKenna Carroll scored a great goal by placing the ball perfectly in the corner while Raptor, Kathryn Peters had 2 super saves in the goal. The Raptors couldn’t keep Clara Eddy from scoring the first Shark goal. Libby Larner had an amazing attempt on goal in the third quarter and showed some hustle out on the field however, the Sharks third quarter goalie did not allow any Raptor scores. The Raptors final score was made by Hailey Munguia amongst chaos down by the goal. The Raptors continue their winning streak.
Green Geckos 5, Surf 5 (BU10)
The Green Geckos faced off against the Surf in the BU10 division in game 2. The game was a thriller and both teams played their hearts out. At the half, the Surf was up 4-1, with Sam Leaman scoring the first goal for the Geckos. However, after the half, the Geckos geared up and with Sam Wertheimer defending against several goals, Daniel Knapp bravely getting up from numerous smack downs, Oliver Ressler, Evan Wicks and Eaan McKasson’s mighty defense and fancy footwork, Hunter Hall was able to score 2 mighty goals and Griffin Brockhoff also scored 2 incredible goals. Sadly, Ryan Myers, a key Gecko defender, was absent and missed the action. The boys all played an exciting and fast paced game to a hard fought tie at 5-5. Congratulations to the Surf and the Green Geckos for a well-played, nail biter full of sportsmanship all around.
United vs. Trojans (BU10)
Captains John Rankin and Jack Pitchess led our team during a well fought match with a tough Trojans squad eventually losing 2-4. United jumped in front during the first quarter on clever goals by Jack Pitchess and Jack Sandy. Jackson Wind did a great job winning the ball and challenging opponents up front as did Colin Avary and John Shepherd in the back. Lukas Thompson anchored our left side against strong attackers. Lucas Mowery and Brady Scanlan shared goal tending duties and denied the Trojans countless times throughout the match. This week’s Game Ball honors went to Jack Sandy. All the boys worked hard for each other and were United.
NB Arsenal 2, Back Bay Surf 2 (BU10)
The NB Arsenal and Back Bay Surf fought a tough game on Saturday, ending in a 2-2 tie. Each member of the Arsenal really contributed in both halves of the game. Jack Christensen worked hard in the goal for all four quarters. Dylan Wolfe and Reid Crandell led the defense with quick feet and great stops and turns. Henry Adams and Reef Kugies also made some key defensive plays. Max Lamb and Jaegger Mitchelldisplayed some fast dribbling to move the Arsenal ball down the field, as did both Joseph Fuller and Jack McClintock who each had numerous shots on goal and put one apiece into the net in the second half, McClintock’s going in after battling head-to-head with both a Surf defender and the Surf goalie for control of the ball and the shot.
Pink Panthers (GU07)
The Pink Panthers, coach by Rick Hohenstein, had a great game on Saturday, September 12th. Isabelle Searles intercepted the ball several times and dribbled down the field to her opponents’ goal. Lily Shea was an awesome goalie and displayed some impressive fast running, charging, blocking and kicking. Isabella Swart showed her skills as goalie with some good stopping and blocking. Alison Woodward played some fabulous defensive blocking and had nice ball control. Posy DiPaola took her turn as goalie with some super blocking and stopping. Go Posy!!! Lauren Dewan dazzled the crowd with her excellent defensive blocking, powerful kicks and overhead throws. She even scored a goal for the Pink Panthers! Zoe Ziebarth had amazing energy on the field and exhibited a talented ability to intercept the ball and charge down the field. As always, Gretchen Hohenstein impressed us all with her seemingly effortless interceptions and her wonderful control of the ball. Yay Gretchen!
The Pink Panthers (GU07) had another terrific game on Saturday the nineteenth. Gretchen Hohenstein’s assertive offense helped lead the team towards the opponents’ goal several times. Lily Shea wowed the crowd with some fast and powerful overhead throws. Isabella Swart displayed some strategic kicking and field placement. Lauren Dewan impressed her fans when charging down the field towards the goal with speed and agility. Zoe Ziebarth exhibited stupendous steals and fancy footwork. Isabelle Searles played some dazzling defense and great goal stops. Alison Woodward’s daring defense and excellent effort payed off when it was her turn to play goalie. Her stupendously strong kicks kept her opponents away from the goal. Posy DiPaola’s tenacious turn arounds and interceptions were over the top. Overall, the Pink Panther’s persistence paid off and a strong game was played by all.
The Incredible Hulks vs. The Green Machines (BU06)
The Incredible Hulks offense dominated in the first half of the game against the Green Machines. Dominic Bueno fought through the Green Machine defenders and made the first score for the Hulks, followed by Finn McClintock, who dribbled down the sideline, crossed to the front of the net and kicked it in. Joseph Whelan and Jerome Snyderscored in both halves of the game, with four goals and two goals respectively. The Hulk defense got a chance to show its skills in the second half, with Dylan Aust, Blake Bonnano and Aidan Gassel teaming together to execute some amazing stops, turns and steals to keep the Green Machine away from the goal.
Green Machine vs. Green Hornets (BU5)
Lindbergh Field was awash in Green on Sunday as the Green Machine faced off against the Green Hornets. Edward “Ebo” Olsen was an offensive force for the Machine, and Casey Mader Dauk scored a beautiful goal worthy of the highlight reel. Making huge defensive plays and consistently turning away scoring attempts were Caden Jardim and Vann Pronger. Christopher Burkemper played an outstanding game, hustling on every play and contributing an assist on a key goal. Fun was had by all.
The Bulldozers vs. The Tiger Pirates (BU5)
The Bulldozers faced a tough opponent Saturday. Michael Woodward provided some awesome defense while John Fay was unstoppable shooting goals. James Alleman showed some amazing footwork. Charlie Jeffs exhibited some skill while dribbling down the sidelines.
