Laguna Girl Scouts seek members, leaders

Laguna Beach Girl Scouts will hold an open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Laguna Beach Girl Scout House, 190 High Drive.

Girl Scouts is a program for girls from kindergarten through 12th grade. Troops are formed as adult leadership becomes available. Each troop requires two trained leaders, and free training is provided.

Girl Scouts membership is $10 per year, and girls will be able to register at the meeting. Financial assistance is available.

Assistance League marks 50 years of School Bell

This year celebrates the 50th anniversary of National Assistance League’s Operation School Bell program, which has clothed more than 2 million children since its inception. Locally, the Laguna Beach chapter provides jackets and backpacks filled with school supplies to Headstart and Evenstart schools in the area.

The Evenstart program is located at the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach, Main Branch. The school room was furnished by the Assistance League and has provided a happy learning environment for the children and staff.

Club to benefit from Bloomie’s shoppers

The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach will be part of the Bloomingdale’s Shopping Benefit, set for 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Bloomingdale’s Fashion Island and Costa Mesa stores. Shoppers bring in a complimentary coupon and invitation and the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach receives a $5 donation from Bloomingdale’s.

The invitation also provides 15% savings on almost every purchase throughout the day. There will be entertainment and fashion activities going on as well. To obtain a complimentary ticket, call Michelle Ray at (949) 494-2535, ext. 103 before Oct. 22.

Classic cars party benefits Boys & Girls Club

Crevier’s Classic Cars and Costumes Party, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Nov. 8 at Crevier Classic Cars, 65-B Clinton St., Costa Mesa, will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach.

Attendees can check out cars from the ‘20s to the ‘70s and express themselves in period dress, such as flapper, greaser, Gidget, hippie or Gatsby. There will be food, drinks, music, dancing, and a silent and live auction. Tickets are $65. For more, call Michelle Ray at (949) 494-2535, ext. 103.

Parent round table planned for Sunday morning

Parents and adults of all ages are invited to hear Kara Powell speak on “How to raise spiritually, emotionally and physically healthy children and teenagers” in the Parlor of Laguna Presbyterian Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Those who would like to learn more about parenting, want an opportunity to discuss relevant issues, or connect with other moms and dads to find encouragement and support are invited come to this next in a series of quarterly Parent Roundtable Forums.

Powell is director of family ministries at Fuller Seminary and recognized as an entertaining and informative expert on the topic.

Jennifer Sweet, an experienced teacher and wife of Laguna Presbyterian’s Youth and Family Ministry Pastor, Steve Sweet, will host the one-hour gathering.

Free Sunday School and child care is offered in the Turner Hall Building located near Mermaid Street on Second Avenue.

Laguna Presbyterian’s Parlor, where the forum will be held, is at the back of the rose garden on the corner of Forest Avenue and Second Street.
