IRVINE — Brett Berman scored his first collegiate goal to break a 1-1 tie for the No. 23-ranked Anteaters in the nonconference game Friday at Anteater Stadium.

The visitors opened the scoring, but UCI senior Matt Murphy scored early in the 39th minute with an assist from sophomore Spencer Thompson. It was Murphy’s team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Berman, a freshman who came off the bench, then scored in the 42nd minute on a throw-in from Gray Bailey.

Freshman Andrew Fontein had one save for UCI (7-0-2).

The Roadrunners are now 2-9-0.

IRVINE — Sophomore Tanya Taylor put in a rebound off a shot from junior Kate Berrini and Berrini crossed the ball from the left corner into the box where it was headed in by a Don defender to round out the scoring in the nonconference game Friday at UCI.

UCI freshman keeper Erica Quevedo had four saves in her first career start.

UCI improved to 5-5.

USF fell to 4-5-1.

COSTA MESA — The Pirates prevailed, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18, in a nonconference home match Friday. The win avenged a tournament loss to the Mounties last weekend.

Rachel Freeno and Jessica Bodkin each pounded 11 kills, while Karlee Skalla added seven for the winners (7-0).

Emily Lyon had 34 assists and six aces for OCC.

Mt. SAC fell to 6-3.

OCC meets visiting San Diego City Wednesday at 6 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Teresa Warner scored in the 45th minute and Kaleigh Trider added insurance for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference clash Friday.

Goalkeeper Caitlin Schott had three saves to earn her second shutout in conference play for OCC (3-4-3, 1-2-1 in conference).

The Pirates visit Saddleback Tuesday at 3 p.m.
