NEWPORT BEACH — The Newport Harbor High boys’ water polo team suffered a 5-4 loss to El Toro in a quarterfinal of the South Coast Tournament Friday at Newport Harbor.

The Sailors (4-2) will play in a fifth-place semifinal game today at 9:35 a.m at Newport Harbor. They might play against Back Bay rival Corona del Mar. The Sea Kings lost to Santa Barbara, 10-7, in a quarterfinal, and will play in the other fifth-place semifinal today at 8:30 a.m. at Newport Harbor. The fifth-place match is at 1:55 p.m. at Harbor.

Katella Tournament

ANAHEIM — Costa Mesa High defeated Sunny Hills, 11-2, blanking the Lancers after the first period Friday to advance to today’s three-team round-robin finals at Katella High.

Junior goalie Jackson O’Connor sparkled Friday, posting nine saves and one steal. The two goals are the fewest allowed in a game this year for the Mustangs (4-2).

Cody Serrano led seven Mesa scorers with four goals.

IRVINE — Charlie Umansky, Danny O’Neil and Kreger Todd scored one goal each in Estancia’s 12-3 pool-play loss to Tesoro in the nine-team tournament at Irvine High Friday.

Umansky scored twice for the Eagles (2-4) in their 11-4 loss to Woodbridge Thursday.

Estancia continues tournament play today at 11 a.m.

Sage Hill Prep Classic

NEWPORT BEACH – Rian Billingsley, Laney Tucker and Casey Astorino won in singles to help lead the Lightning to a 6-3 win over JSerra Friday at Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.

Sage Hill swept in doubles, as the teams of Katie Bick and Jaclyn Smrecek; Isa-Marie Taskinen and Billingsley; as well as Sarah Choi and Laney Tucker recorded wins.

The Lightning will resume round-robin play in the five-team tournament today at 10 a.m.
