UCI freshman goalie shares Big West honor

UC Irvine freshman goalkeeper Andrew Fontein has been named Co-Big West Player of the Week in men’s soccer.

Fontein had seven saves and recorded the first two shutouts of his career at the SDSU/USD Tournament. Fontein was named to the all-tournament team following UCI’s 1-0 win at San Diego.

This is the first career Player of the Week honor for Fontein and it is the second time an Anteater has won the award this season.

Fontein shares the award this week with Dylan Curtis of UC Davis.
