BRENTWOOD — Sage Hill School senior Cait Williamson won the Brentwood Invitational girls’ race for the third straight year at Brentwood High.

Williamson finished the three-mile course in 18 minutes, 24 seconds, as Sage Hill finished fourth out of nine teams. Also finishing for the Lightning were Caroline Grant in 11th (21:14), Jackie Dion in 16th (21:49), Megan Culberson in 41st (23:20) and Tiffany Shapiro in 46th (23:48).

The Sage Hill boys finished second, led by freshman Blake Myers in third individually (16:35). He was followed by teammates Slater Stanley in 16th (17:52), Alex Jimenez in 19th (17:58), David Penner in 23rd (18:08) and Kyle Simon in 29th (18:24). The Lightning were missing their top runner, junior Lion Wintemute, who was out sick.

Sage Hill next has its second Academy League meet on Oct. 7 at Brethren Christian.

Big Ditch Invitational

ARROYO GRANDE — Estancia High’s Alejandra Peralta finished 15th in 22 minutes, 12 seconds to help the Eagles’ girls’ team take fifth out of 13 teams Saturday.

Sierra Gordon (20th in 22:37), Melissa Correa (32nd in 23:48), Iris Herrera (33rd in 23:53), Jessica Cahuantzia (36th in 24:08) and Areli Martin (45th in 26:16) also contributed to Estancia’s 136 points.

On the boys’ side, Jonathan Moreno finished 32nd in 18:52 and helped the Eagles take eighth out of 12 teams. George Carrizal (41st 19:46), Sean Bjelland (42nd in 20:01), Manny Hernandez (44th in 20:16), Victor Silva (46th in 20:29) and Brooks Watkins (49th in 20:47) to help Estancia score 205 points.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Sage Hill Prep Classic

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Julia Blakeley went undefeated in singles, 4-0, in the third annual event to help Sage Hill finish third Saturday at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.

The Lightning went 2-2 in the tournament that Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas won for the second straight time. St. Margaret’s finished second, JSerra was fourth and The Peninsula School of Melbourne, Australia was fifth out five teams.

Blakeley, as well as Jaclyn Smrecek, Katie Bick and Rian Billingsley made the all-tournament team for Sage Hill. Billingsley was 3-1 in singles in the tournament, while Smrecek and Bick were both 2-2 in singles.

Sage Hill, ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division IV, beat Peninsula, 6-3, Saturday morning, and then went on to lose to St. Margaret’s, 6-3, and Bishop Gorman, 5-4.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Katella Tournament

ANAHEIM — Costa Mesa High placed second in the tournament after falling to Laguna Hills, 8-6, in the championship game Saturday at Katella High.

The Mustangs (5-3) had previously defeated Cypress in their first game of the round-robin final, 10-8.

Costa Mesa senior Cody Serrano and junior goalie Jackson O’Connor were each named to the all-tournament team. Serrano scored nine goals over the final two games and O’Connor made 24 saves, including a penalty-shot save against Laguna Hills.

“Collectively, it’s the best ball I’ve seen [the team] play,” Coach Justin Taylor said. “We’re going in a good direction.”

Costa Mesa is at Beckman on Monday.

Irvine Tournament

IRVINE – Charlie Umanski scored eight goals for Estancia High in its two losses to close out play in the tourney Saturday.

He had five goals in a 10-5 loss to Irvine B. Goalie Connor Graham had 15 saves in each game, including a 12-5 loss to Beckman.
