Slammers claim crown

The Newport Beach-based Slammers Futbol Club Under 11 boys’ team has had a strong summer. And the Slammers certainly capped it in spectacular fashion.

The Slammers won their flight at the 30th annual NHB Classic over the Labor Day weekend, outscoring foes, 17-0, in five games.

The Slammers defeated San Diego’s Santos FC, 2-0, before getting by Blades Red FC, 7-0. The Slammers then defeated San Diego, 4-0, and Rancho Santa Fe, 2-0.

In the title game, the Slammers bested the Irvine Blades FC, 2-0.

The Slammers had already won the Rancho Santa Margarita tournament this summer, as well as the Laguna Hills West Coast Futbol Classic.

Players helping the team to victory included Stephen Von Der Ahe, Travis Campos, Dylan Campos, Colin Redman, Jack Tomai, Ian Fletcher, Ryan Stone, Brenden Hueston, William Hunter, Jason Simaan, Chris Aguilar, Kelvin Uribe, Chris Moya and George Wells. The Slammers are coached by Ralph Lopez and Brian Sjolma.
