Newport revising zoning code with public input

A draft of Newport Beach’s new zoning code is now available for public review.

The city is rewriting its zoning code in conjunction with its General Plan, which was revised in 2006, and the Coastal Land Use Plan.

The city’s zoning code establishes the allowed uses and development requirements for all parcels of land in Newport Beach.

The draft includes the creation of several new zoning districts and related development and use standards, regulations related to affordable housing, standards for bluff and canyon development and standards for coastal access.

As part of the rewrite process, the city conducted a thorough reevaluation of the city’s regulations.

Clarifications and changes were made to code sections found to be ineffective, outdated or difficult to interpret and administer.

The draft code can be viewed at www.city.newport-beach.ca.us/PLN/ Planning.html or copies are available at the Planning Department.

In addition, the General Plan/Local Coastal Program Implementation Committee will hold a series of public meetings to review the code and take public comment.

For more information about the revised code or a schedule of the public meetings, call (949) 644-3200.
