Area’s youth football teams still rolling

Key plays both on offense and defense sparked the Huntington Beach Oilers to a 12-0 shutout victory over the South Bay Packers Saturday in a Jr. All-American Football Jr. Clinic Division game at Huntington Beach High.

Arick McLawyer scored his third rushing touchdown of the season and quarterback Cameron Herrington guided the Oilers on offense.

The Oilers host the Bellflower Broncos (White) at Huntington Beach High at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Pee Wee Division

Inglewood 14, Huntington 8: Huntington took an 8-0 halftime lead on one of the league’s perennially successful programs, but Inglewood scored twice in the third quarter and held on for the win.

A touchdown pass from Nolan Winks to wide receiver Maurice Barber put Huntington on the scoreboard.

Huntington hosts the Tri City Steelers at 4 p.m. Saturday at Huntington Beach High.

POP WARNER

The Huntington Beach Chargers collected their fifth straight impressive victory Saturday by blanking the Stanton Raiders, 28-0, in a Mighty Mite Division contest.

Chase Ault, Nick Warren and Shaun Colamonico all scored in the first half as Huntington took command of the game.

Kyle Drinnon capped the scoring with a second-half touchdown.

Huntington faces the Tustin Cobras Saturday in a battle between the only two undefeated teams in the division.

Midget Division

Huntington 31, Yorba Linda 0: A 66-yard punt return for a touchdown by Treavon Coley midway through the first quarter ignited Huntington’s impressive win over the host Cougars Saturday.

Coley again scored the second Green Chargers touchdown on a nine-yard run in the second quarter that gave Huntington a 12-0 lead at the half. He also scored on a 25-yard run.

Coley also intercepted a pass and returned it 91 yards for his fourth score of the game.

The Green Chargers, now 5-0, travel to Fullerton Saturday to face the Titans at Hillcrest Park.

Jr. Mighty Mite Division

Yorba Linda 40, Huntington 12: Mile McCord rushed for a pair of first-half touchdowns, but Huntington couldn’t overcome a 27-point run by the Bulldogs after the Chargers had pulled to within, 13-12, in the first half.
