Loss to Servite drops Edison in Pac-5 poll

Edison took a five-spot tumble in this week’s CIF Southern Section Pac-5 football poll after losing Friday to Servite.

The Chargers went into the game ranked third in the Pac-5 Division but fell to No. 8 this week after losing, 29-17, to the Friars.

The win elevated Servite from seventh to fifth in the new poll.

“It was a great game,” Edison Coach Dave White said of the nonleague clash at Cerritos College. “We had our chances, but they made the big plays to win it.”

Long Beach Poly remains the Pac-5 leader at 3-0. Trinity League teams — Servite, Mater Dei, Orange Lutheran and St. John Bosco — take up four of the top 10 spots. Joining Edison in the poll is fellow Sunset League foe Los Alamitos, which comes in at No. 6.

Two other Sunset teams, Esperanza and Newport Harbor, received votes but didn’t crack the top 10.

Rankings also were released Tuesday in girls’ volleyball, boys’ water polo and girls’ tennis, and Ocean View’s girls’ tennis team was No. 3 in Division V.
