Disneyland horticulture detailed at meeting

The Laguna Beach Garden Club will present Karen Hedges, director of horticulture at the Disneyland Resort, and a third-generation Lagunan, at its Oct. 10 meeting.

The Disneyland Hotel first contracted Hedges in 1981 to redesign areas of landscaping, gardens originally created in the 1950s. Before long, she was hired full time and the position grew into managing the landscape team.

Twenty-seven years later, her role includes overseeing the horticulture for two theme parks, three hotels and the dining/shopping districts that make up several hundred acres of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.

The meeting will be at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive, Laguna Beach.

The social gathering starts at 9:30 a.m., featuring the plant and garden boutique — unique garden items at “dirt-cheap” prices. The business meeting starts at 10 a.m., followed by the speaker at 10:30 a.m.

The meeting is free one time for guests. For more information on the garden club, visit lagunabeachgardenclub.org
