Newport Harbor Junior Cheerleaders Shine at Dana Hills Football Game Halftime Show

Approximately 70 junior cheer cheerleaders performed at Saturday’s varsity football game against Dana Hills on Saturday.

The cheerleaders rallied onto the field at halftime and performed beautifully in front of a large home audience. The performance this year included a dance routine, with stunts and tumbling incorporated into the performance. The young girls’ ages ranged from 5 to 13. Newport Harbor’s cheerleaders conducted a junior cheer camp clinic in August for four days.

The junior cheerleaders were taught Saturday’s performance routine, along with traditional sideline cheers. The summer junior cheer camp is the cheerleading program’s biggest fundraiser for the school year. This is the second year in a row that the junior cheerleaders performed at the game’s halftime show, in front of a huge crowd. The young cheerleaders, with colorful ribbons in their hairs and huge smiles, were full of energy and excitement. And with good reason, too. Newport finished the evening with a victory against a very good Dana Hills team.
