Irene Rose Rice

May 26, 1916 – October 7, 2008

Irene Rose Rice passed away of natural causes at Hoag Hospital in

the early morning on October 7, 2008. Irene was born on May 26,

1916 in Chester, Nebraska. She was one of ten children, born to the

Rossmillers. She met her husband, Robert Rice, in 1936 when his

truck crashed on her farm. Irene and Robert were married in 1938

and they moved to Los Angeles, CA during World War II in1939.

They gave birth to their only son, William Warren Rice, in 1948.

Robert passed away in 1977 and Irene moved to Corona del Mar, CA

where she resided for the remainder of her life.

Irene was a wonderful woman, mother, grandmother, and great

grandmother. She is survived by her brother Wilbur (Durango,

Colorado), her son William (Corona del Mar, CA), her daughterin-

law Candace (Corona del Mar, CA), her three grandchildren:

Dannell (Santa Barbara, CA), Kathryn (Sebastopol, CA), and

Victoria (Holland, NJ), and her great grandson William (Santa

Barbara, CA). Irene was a dedicated member of the Corona del Mar

Community Church and enjoyed working as an assistant wedding

coordinator for many years. She also loved to garden, needlepoint,

and spend time with her family. In lieu of flowers, please make

donations to The Free Wheelchair Mission Run for Mobility and

send it to care of Bill Rice at 1524 Serenade Terrace, Corona del

Mar, CA 92625.

In her will Irene wrote, “This is how I would like to be remembered.

Of all the people whose paths I’ve crossed, I hope I gave them love,

health, and guidance”. A celebration of Irene’s life will be held on

Friday, October 10th at 3pm at the Corona del Mar Community

Church located at 611 Heliotrope Avenue, Corona del Mar. A
