YOUTH SCENE:

Garrett Mullins came up with a hat trick Saturday and it keyed the Golden Potatoes’ 4-2 victory over the OJ Smackdown in AYSO Region 56 boys’ Under-12 division action.

Mullins scored in the first quarter off an assist by Shawn Mullins to give the Potatoes a 1-0 lead. In the second, Dylan LaCavera slotted a shot past the Smackdown keeper to increase the lead to 2-0 at the half.

The Smackdown cut the lead in half when Walker Thurston scored in the opening minutes of the third quarter.

Mullins, however, found the net two more times in the fourth quarter to make it 4-1.

The Smackdown got their final goal on a shot by Josh Duren later in the quarter.

Region 56 Under-9 Division

Lucky Charms 4 Polar Bears 1: In a battle of undefeated teams, the Lucky Charms never trailed in handing the Polar Bears their first defeat.

Casey Sommer scored twice and Lindsay Heckmanand Gretchen Kirkreit added goals for Lucky Charms.

The teams were knotted at one in the fourth quarter, but Sommer changed that by scoring the first of her two goals in the period.
