Rotary-sponsored classic car show set

Woodies, minis, T-birds and beautifully restored antique autos will be on view during the Classic Car Show, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Laguna Beach from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.

Entrants can compete for prizes in 28 categories, from pre-1931 antiques to custom hot rods and muscle cars.

Adult admission is $5; kids 11 and younger get in for $2. Kids in strollers get in free, as do active duty military with ID.

MS bike tour will ride through Laguna

The annual Multiple Sclerosis Bike Tour route will take place through Laguna Beach on Saturday morning 7 to 10 a.m., City Manager Ken Frank said in his Oct. 3 Weekly Update.

“No parking” signs will be placed on meters on the southbound side of Coast Highway between Broadway and Mountain Road. The fundraising tour starts in Irvine and ends in Mission Bay, with a goal to raise $2.5 million.

Friends of the Library dinner set for Thursday

The Friends of the Laguna Beach Library will hold its annual dinner meeting and silent auction of autographed books Thursday at Tivoli Terrace, with the auction beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.

The guest speaker is Sherwood Kiraly, Coastline Pilot columnist, author, playwright and screenwriter.

Sustainability speaker Saturday at City Hall

Chandra Krout will speak on the topic, “Cities and Sustainability” from noon to 1 p.m.. Saturday, in the City Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave.

Krout is Environmental and Sustainability Administrator for the City of Irvine. The free program is sponsored by the Environmental Committee.

Applicants for Design Board needed

The city is seeking applicants for three Board of Adjustment/Design Review Board terms to Feb. 1, 2011, and an alternate term to Feb. 1, 2010.

Interviews will be held Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. by the City Council. Board members serve a two-year term and are compensated $230 per month. The board meets three Thursdays a month at 6 p.m.

Interested residents should obtain an application from the City Clerk’s office or online at www.lagunabeachcity.net and file it by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Volunteers invited to ice cream social Oct. 19

Special friends of Friendship Shelter are invited to an ice cream social at 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at the shelter, 1335 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach.

Diamond Crestview resurfacing begins

Major street resurfacing began this week in the Diamond Crestview area, City Manager Ken Frank stated in his Oct. 3 Weekly Update. Work will continue during the following two weeks.

A portion of Summit Drive will be resurfaced, which will require the detour of all traffic above that point through Arch Beach Heights via Alta Vista Way. The city will provide free shuttle service to residents who need to park out of their street area.
