Pacific def. UC Irvine

STOCKTON, Calif. — Junior Alexandra Filkins logged a career-high .688 hitting percentage and was errorless on the night, putting away 11 of 16 swings for the Anteaters, but it was not enough to avert a 27-25, 25-21, 25-20 Big West Conference sweep by host to Pacific Friday at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The 11 kills were also a career-high for Filkins and sophomore Kari Pestolesi added 13 kills and 10 digs while hitting .321 on the evening.

Taryn Robertson recorded 33 assists, five digs and a pair of block assists, while Riley Cropper led the team with three block assists.

Neither team was unable to hold more than a two-point lead early in the match.

Trailing 17-16, UCI (7-10, 2-2 in conference) rattled off three straight points to take a 19-17 edge on an attack error by Alexa Anderson to force a Pacific timeout.

The Tigers chipped at the lead and the two sides traded points. With the score deadlocked at 25, Pacific took the lead on a service error by Robertson and Shannon Krug found Mallori Gibson for the win on set point.

UCI established the early lead in the second set at 10-7 on a kill from Cropper, but the Tigers strung together three consecutive points to tie the set.

Leading, 14-13, UOP went on a 5-2 run to open up a four-point lead.

The lead extended to five at 21-16 and the Tigers went on to capture the set on a kill from Anderson.

Pacific jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the final set.

Trailing, 15-10, UCI capitalized on a pair of Tiger miscues to shave the lead to two at 15-13, but Pacific went to Gibson and Anderson on consecutive plays to extend the margin to 17-13.

UCI came as close as four but would get no closer, as Svenja Engelhardt put away a Krug assist on match point.

Anderson led Pacific (4-9, 4-1) with 14 kills.
