OCC to celebrate new science building
Construction is finished on the new science building at OCC, which has been in the remodeling process for the past year, and the school is celebrating on campus this afternoon.
The building is designed in the style of the new library that the college opened early this year, with brick walls and a white facade. It will serve as the home of a new aquarium, as well as labs and offices.
The original building was put up in 1971, but OCC felt the need to replace it as part of its plan to create a state-of-the-art science center.
Lewis Center, as the building is called, is named for Charles Lewis, a 31-year chairman of the college’s physical science and math department who played an integral role in the school’s founding.
Charles died in a car accident in 1979, while his children survived. They will be on hand to cut the ribbon for the ceremony, which starts at 4 p.m.
