Former Sailor serves up record number of aces

Newport Harbor High product Megan Munce, a freshman at Texas Christian University, earned Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Week honors in women’s volleyball after blasting a conference-record 12 service aces in the Horned Frogs’ conference sweep of visiting Air Force Friday.

Munce, a 5-foot-8 defensive specialist, tallied 11 aces in the first set alone. The previous single-match record for a Mountain West player was nine. Included in her 11 first-game aces were five straight. She also served 18 consecutive points in that game, topped only once in NCAA history.

Munce also had one kill, six digs and four assists for TCU, coached by former Corona del Mar High standout Prentice Lewis, the former Prentice Perkins.
