Breakdown: Newport Harbor’s defense has been stout against the run and it will have a test against Fountain Valley’s speedster in Middlebrooks. Only once this season has Middlebrooks been held under 100 rushing yards, coming in a 29-13 loss on Sept. 12 to Tesoro, now ranked No. 9 in the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Division poll ... Two teams have gained more than 100 rushing yards against Newport Harbor and it resulted in Sailors losses, the first to Long Beach Poly and then Edison, the current No. 1- and No. 5-ranked teams ... Newport Harbor is the visiting team on its own field because Fountain Valley’s home site, Huntington Beach High, is undergoing renovation … Both teams are looking for their first league win after close losses in their respective league openers. The Sailors lost, 14-7, to Edison. The Barons lost, 17-14, to Esperanza ... Newport Harbor has defeated the Barons twice since joining the Sunset League in 2006.
